Hi, my divorce was final 12/20/2018 and i am under the impression i can claim my alimony in 2019 tax returns even though payments were not made until 2019 to my spouse?

Alimony is deductible for divorces that were finalized on or before 12/31/18, and continues to be deductible in future years as long as the original divorce order remains in place.
