If I buy TurboTax 2018 PC disc now and there are updates later due to changes in the tax law or to fix bugs, can get the updates online?

There were many changes in the tax law for 2018, and I don't expect all of them to be implemented in TurboTax just yet, so I'm expecting updates.  But I prefer to get the PC disc.  Can I go online later and download updates?  How?  Do I simply register the software?

What product do you plan to buy?  By your screen name above it says "Business Edition".   That product is for corporations, partnerships, multimember LLC, estates/trusts, etc.    Perhaps you indicated the wrong product when you asked this question.  Or maybe you really want the Business Edition for one of those business entities.

If you really DO mean the Business Edition, it only comes in CD version, and for Windows only.  So that is the only choice.

It is the personal tax products that come as either CD or download.

You'll be able to update your product from within the product.  There are updates every week this time of year--occasionally more often.   Your CD will be the original release, but TurboTax personal products are now on Revision 13.   So you'll need to update it after installing.  When you launch it the first time, it may ask you if you want to update now, or you can click to run the updater later.  But you should choose to run it now with the new installation, so that you start off with everything updated.

Once you install the desktop software, it has an updater program built in.   And there is a way to set the Updater Preferences.    You can manually click to "Check for updates" at anytime, or you can go into "Updater preferences" and set it up to get "Automatic updates"   Either method will download updates and install them in your program.

During installation it may ask you how you want to set the preferences to get the updates.

Thanks. Yes, I do mean Business edition. I need to file an estate income tax return.  Can I have both the Business and the Premier editions on my Windows PC at the same time?

You're welcome.   Yes, you can have the Business Edition and a personal tax product such as Premier on your PC at the same time.

And for a bonus:    Here are the recommended installation instructions:

You must install using Administrator privilege.
First manually disconnect your computer from the Internet so you can safely temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall software programs.
Close any other open programs.
If installing from a downloaded installation file, then double-click the file to start the install process, and skip the CD steps.
If installing from a CD, insert the CD and the installation should launch.  If it doesn't start installing automatically, then here's how to launch it:

Hold down the Windows+R keys to open the Run window.
Click Browse, and then navigate to the TurboTax CD on your CD/DVD/RW drive (usually Drive D).
      Double-click the setup.exe file.
Click OK to launch the installer.

After installing, be sure to re-enable your antivirus and firewall programs before connecting  your computer back up to the Internet.
Reboot (restart) your computer.
Launch TurboTax and run the program updater.
