.tax file won’t open

Your tax data file can be read and edited in the TurboTax program, whereas your PDF file is a non-editable "snapshot" of your tax return that can be opened, viewed, and printed in a PDF viewer program.  Here are the steps to access all forms and worksheets that you can print or save as PDF:

Here are the steps to print your return and all forms and worksheets:

·         Sign back in to your account and scroll down and select Amend (change) return (You will not be amending, this is just a way to get you back into your tax return)

·         Select Amend using TurboTax Online

·         Once you're back in the return, select Tax Tools (left column) and then Print Center

·         Select Print, save or preview this year's return

·         Check the box for 2017 federal returns (this will open further options)

·         You can choose to print just the government worksheets or government and TurboTax worksheets (click on screenshot below for more detail)

Here is a TurboTax FAQ about the differences between the tax data file and PDF file:

You are posting in an old thread from last year that will not show up as needing help.   Please start your question at the link below.   You will need to explain more and be questioned about your issue.

When you go to the form at the link, the first box is for a summary of your question, like a title, and is limited to 170 characters..  If you need more room, lower on the form you will come to another box with plenty of room to enter details.    This is a public Internet forum, so don't post any personal info.

.tax file won’t open

I have turotax premier 17 downloaded on my mac.  I filled in, e-filed and saved and received my refund from IRS so I know it went through.  I can see my return in turbotax but it will NOT open.  I can't get it by doing a .tax search.  This is beyond frustrating as I need to print off the return and am going through a loan that needs this information now.  I can see others that are having the same problem.  Plz tell me how to resolve this.  I can't get it through the cloud, either.  It simply won't open.

.tax file won’t open

Step 1 in your script is to download the 2018 .tax file. I just bought a copy of the Download/CD version of the 2017 TurboTax. I expect there would be an on-line page where I could type in my  order number as proof that I paid for the Desktop version and then my .tax file would be unlocked.

But no - it does not happen.

I see that I typed 2018 - I meant 2017. I need 2017 .tax file for my new 2017 Download/CD/Desktop TT that I just bought for $116.

Really frustrating.

Sorry but buying the Desktop program won't unlock an Online return.  You had to pay for a 2018 online return.  Call in and ask them to unlock it for you.

.tax file won’t open

I had a data download done when I got rid of my PC and now the California Franchise Tax Board says I didn't file my 2017 taxes. I no longer have the 2017 tax program. Apparently I hadn't saved it in a PDF file format and I can't find a program that can open the turbo tax file. I'm not sure where to go from here. Thanks to anyone that can provide an answer that doesn't include me having to purchase the program again and redoing my taxes.
