The first 7 months of the year I rented, then other 5 I lived with non-family. I don't want to claim HoH and mess up the home owners return. Do I pick HoH or Single?

I'm not sure how it all works, but I don't want to mess up the home owners return by claiming HoH. How does this all work out and which should I pick? I was HoH for the first 7 months of the year, but I'm currently living with my fiancees family due to moving to a new area.

To be Head of Household, you would need to provide over 50% of the costs of maintaining a residence for the ENTIRE year of 2017, where you lived with a qualified dependent for at least six months.  It does not sound like you meet the requirement for the full year.

Perfect, thank you. I will file as single.
