Full time online public school student(in elementary)--Are Internet fees tax deductible? He's required by law to meet attendance requirements through the Internet.

I would venture that no other utilities used during the require school time would be deductible either.  We do not pay tuition.  The school district provides books and only a few specialty materials for his classes like "Art."  Also, what about printer ink/paper for printing out required assignments?  The student is enrolled 100% in a public online school.

Education expenses for grades K-12 are not deductible on your Federal return, whether for private, public, or home schooling, nor are the expenses for tutoring, after school lessons or after school activities, such as dance lessons, sports, etc.  Some states allow deductions/credits for K-12 education and/or home schooling expenses; if your state has these deductions available, you will be prompted to enter them when you prepare your state return.  (As far as I know, the states that offer any sort of K-12 deductions/credits are Illinois, Indiana, Iowa,Louisiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin

No.  This is a personal expense, and not deductible.

How is it a personal expense when the internet is literally required and used to calculate attendance when the schools physical building has been closed due to quarantine? It is a requirement! The students are counted absent if they do not log in!
