My son cashed in investments for college and received a 1099-B. His return is asking for last year's schedule D, but he didn't have D last year. What do I do?

My son received investments from my parents for college. He started college this year and received a 1099 B. I am amending his return for these transactions, and Turbotax wants Schedule D from 2015's return. I checked his return, and there was none. What am I missing?

If he didn't have a 1099-B for 2015, you can skip that question, and the program should move on.

TurboTax is looking for a capital loss carryover. If your son didn't file Schedule D for 2015, then the capital loss carryover amount would be $0.
