Can I use one TurboTax Deluxe 2016 CD on multiple computers in the same house for different family members? ( i.e., myself and son or daughter)

My daughter used it to do her taxes on her laptop, because, if I understood correctly, people in the same immediate family can use the same CD to do their taxes, and it can be installed on multiple computers, as long as they are in the same family.  I keep getting error messages when installing the software.  Was it changed for 2016, so each family member in the same house now has to buy their own tax CD?

What is the error message?

There are 2 error messages. the first one is long: Error Installing D:\TurboTax 2016\MSI\WinPerReleaseEngine.msi...(with a bunch of other stuff in between)...ending in "Error code 1935." (I had to take a picture of it because it went to the next screen fast.)

Then it said "Unexpected error   installation cannot continue due to an unexpected Windows installer error    Error code 65535"

Wow, these appear to be big-time errors.

I found this FAQ on the 65535 error:
<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/3206604-error-code-65535-unexpected-error">https://ttlc.intuit.com...>

That one says first restart your machine and try to re-install again to see if that resolves it simply.   If not, then it gives a complex set of instructions after that.

And I found this on the 1935 error:
<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899760-error-1935-an-error-occurred-during-the-installation-of-as...>
Hower, that FAQ only mentions TurboTax 2009 and 2010 specifically.

Those are pretty complex.  Before following those FAQs, you may wish to talk to TurboTax Support first in case they have some other explanation about what may be going on.  I'll tell you how to phone them on Sunday below.

You might try uninstalling, then reinstalling it with these recommended steps below to see if it makes a difference.

If you need to forcefully uninstall any partial installation of TurboTax, here's how:
<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901054-forcefully-uninstall-and-reinstall-turbotax">https://ttlc....>

You must install using Administrator privilege.
First disconnect from the Internet so you can safely disable your antivirus and firewall software programs.
Close any other open programs.
Insert the CD.  It should start installing automatically.  If it doesn't:

Hold down the Windows+R keys to open the Run window.
Click Browse, and then navigate to the TurboTax CD on your CD/DVD/RW drive (usually Drive D).
    Double-click the setup.exe file.
Click OK to launch the installer.

After installing, be sure to re-enable your antivirus and firewall programs before connecting back up to the Internet.
Reboot (restart) your computer.
Open TurboTax and run the updater.

Here's how to reach TurboTax Customer Support by phone.  Use the form at this link to be assigned a phone number. The number will not display when they are closed.  This time of year they are open 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern)  7 days/week.

If it was me, instead of going through all that, I might ask TurboTax Support to let you try a download file first, and see if it will install from the download file.  The download file is a much more recent release.  The download file is like release R21, while the CD is R1.

Is your computer up to date with Windows Updates?

Thank you very much!  I tried turning off the antivirus/firewall program and the Internet connection, and it installed just fine.  Now I am doing an extra scan as an extra precaution, before I proceed with getting updates.

I'm sure it is up to date with Windows updates.  It automatically restarted earlier this evening.

This is not at all uncommon with faulty .net framework installations either. I don't know if the instructions mention it on any of the FAQs, but you may need to uninstall all versions of .net Framework and then run windows update over and over until their are no more updates to be had. Overall, it's not a TT problem really. It's a windows issue with your operating system installation. The most drastic measure would be a complete reinstall of windows and all updates. But of course, that's an absolute last resort.

That's good news.  Maybe your security software was corrupting it somehow and causing those errors.

You are correct in that you the owner of the CD can install it on any and all computers you and your family own. If you are having installation problems, it's not a licensing issue. It's issues with whatever operating system you are attempting to install it on.
