How do I find last year’s AGI?

The best place to get your 2015 adjusted gross income (AGI) is from last year's original, unamended tax return.

The IRS requires you to have last year’s AGI to verify your identity when e-filing this year.

If you filed with us online last year

If you filed with us last year and your AGI hasn’t automatically transferred over, it means you’re in a different TurboTax account.

If you don’t remember your login details for your previous account and account recovery takes too long or doesn’t work for you—a faster option could be getting your AGI from a free online IRS return transcript. (You can also get a transcript by mail but it takes a little longer.)

If you can access your previous account:

  1. Go to My Tax Timeline.
  2. Then, in the 2015 Tax Year section, click View adjusted gross income (AGI).

If you didn’t file with us online last year

If you didn’t file with us online last year you can get last year’s AGI from your prior year tax return—from your tax preparer or other tax software you may have used.

You can also get your AGI from an IRS transcript of your return.

If you didn’t file your taxes last year

If you didn’t file last year, just tell us that when we ask you. But if you’ve already entered a number for your AGI, manually enter 0 instead.

If you’ve entered the correct AGI and are getting rejected

If you’ve entered the correct AGI and are getting rejected, you can try entering 0 if you filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time.

You can also try rounding your AGI up/down to the nearest dollar amount.

If you’ve tried everything and still can’t get your AGI

If you’ve tried everything and still can’t get your AGI, don’t worry. You can switch from e-file to file by mail and print and mail your tax return instead.
