Hello. I work for a race team and I'm w2 I drive a tractor trailer all over the country. They give us lodging but no reimbursements. Can I use standard perdiem for meals?

Do I have to add up every single meal cost or can I just use the daily dot per diem. Also when I drive to a race there are days where I'm not driving the truck but still working can I still claim 80 percent write off on them days?

Ideally adding up all of your food expenses will give you the most accurate deduction, however, for simplicity sake, you can use any federal standard deduction that you are aware of.

Days that you work, but don't drive, should still be able to be used as a deduction since you are not your home residence. Many traveling construction workers are allowed per diem and they are not drivers.

Thank you very much. As a dot worker I can deduct 80 percent of what I spend instead of 50 but the days I'm working at the track but not driving the truck I should still be able to deduct the 80 percent right. And I just wanna confirm that the federal per diem is still 63 a day right
