Child Support and Dependents

I am divorced and pay child support. Does this qualify me to claim my children as dependents? But not get the tax credit because that goes to my ex?

To be clear I am not asking to receive the tax credit, just claim them as dependents

Thank You

Child support payment gives you no rights in terms of taxes.  If the children live with your ex, the only way you can claim them is for your ex to give you permission to do so by giving you a signed form 8332.
