Today they will start but if you claimed any dependents on yours it will not be checked until Feb 15 and no one will get a refund until Feb 25~27th but if you did not claim a child you will get your refund quicker
While the IRS will begin to issue EITC/ACTC refunds starting Feb. 15, you should not count on actually seeing your refund until the week of Feb. 27 -- if you chose direct deposit or a debit card and there are no processing issues with your tax return.
The Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) is a refundable credit that you may receive if your Child Tax Credit is greater than the total amount of income taxes you owe, as long as you had an earned income of at least $3,000.
If you have children, you may be able to lower your tax bill by claiming the Child Tax Credit. The Child Tax Credit is a non-refundable credit, which means it cannot reduce your tax balance below zero dollars.
However, if you are unable to take full advantage of the Child Tax Credit (because the amount of your credit is more than the amount of income tax you owe), you may be able to claim the Additional Child Tax Credit as well. With the Additional Child Tax Credit, you may receive a payment for the portion of the Child Tax Credit that was not used to offset your taxes.
The IRS will start accepting 2016 returns on January 23. TurboTax will send you an email when your federal tax return has either been accepted or rejected by the IRS.
My girlfriend and I were both "Accepted" today, but this only means that our SSN's / names and addresses match their files.. being accepted has nothing to do with your return actually being processed.. Hope this helps... TT on 1/5/2017
I was in the test batch last year and had my refund on Feb. 2nd on Netspend card. I filed Jan. 6th and was accepted yesterday. Thanks to the new laws, won't be expecting a refund until mid Feb. this year though. :(
I filed 1/3, got notice of acceptance 1/12 but already know my refund will not come prior to the 2/15 mandatory hold....which they say can actually be 2/27 before it starts to roll out to banks. I hope it won't be the end of February but I have to say I am glad that they are being more careful about trying to catch fraudulent returns. In 2007 I had a fight on my hands because my ex husband claimed my younger daughter for 2006 who A) is NOT his child and B) lived with me all year obviously and 10 months of that year we weren't even in the same state he was in.
Congrats @tmitcham I was able to order bout my transcripts this morning so wonder if that means there done an will just set there till February 15th possibly later ?
Right there with you @a.ray82 I'll be sitting until the 15th as well (which they say could actually mean a DD after 2/27!) but the good news is that the 15th is just 19 days away.
Don't feel bad @a.ray82 I'm in the same boat as you! I was able to order both my transcripts today and I have Eic And ACTC too. So we are both sitting ducks ..lol :)
People come to TurboTax AnswerXchange for help and answers—we want to let them know that we're here to listen and share our knowledge. We do that with the style and format of our responses. Here are five guidelines:
Keep it conversational. When answering questions, write like you speak. Imagine you're explaining something to a trusted friend, using simple, everyday language. Avoid jargon and technical terms when possible. When no other word will do, explain technical terms in plain English.
Be clear and state the answer right up front. Ask yourself what specific information the person really needs and then provide it. Stick to the topic and avoid unnecessary details. Break information down into a numbered or bulleted list and highlight the most important details in bold.
Be concise. Aim for no more than two short sentences in a paragraph, and try to keep paragraphs to two lines. A wall of text can look intimidating and many won't read it, so break it up. It's okay to link to other resources for more details, but avoid giving answers that contain little more than a link.
Be a good listener. When people post very general questions, take a second to try to understand what they're really looking for. Then, provide a response that guides them to the best possible outcome.
Be encouraging and positive. Look for ways to eliminate uncertainty by anticipating people's concerns. Make it apparent that we really like helping them achieve positive outcomes.
