Why do I have to upgrade to TurboTax Self-Employed?
You might not think of yourself as self-employed, especially if you work for an employer. But if you got paid to do work for someone who isn’t your employer, it does count as self-employment income. This could include earnings from side jobs like babysitting, driving, handyman work, web design, and so on.
Self-employment income is often reported on a 1099-MISC or 1099-K, but never on a W-2.
Because you entered self-employment income, you’ll need to upgrade to TurboTax Self-Employed, an online product. We've designed this experience to meet the specific needs of independent contractors, freelancers and consultants to get you every dollar you deserve.
