TurboTax Advantage: Error when creating account "Email is already in use or has an invalid format"

When trying to update your TurboTax Advantage account using a PIN and Phone Number, the Account Setup screen is not accepting a valid email format.  The following errors are generated on the page when trying to click Continue:

"Sorry, there was a problem servicing your request."  and under the email address field it says "Email is either already in use or has an invalid format. Example: name@domain.com".

Those experiencing this error would have received a letter in the mail to update credit card information with a link to http://intuitdirect.com/pin that included a PIN number.


Although you may not have a TurboTax Advantage account with the email address you are trying to use, you may have an existing TurboTax.com account.   Please try the following:

  • If you have an existing TurboTax account, try logging into TurboTax Advantage with your account credentials.  Once logged in, you can sign-up for TurboTax Advantage.
  • If you need assistance with trying to access your account you can go through the Account Recovery tool to gain access.
  • If you are experiencing an issue above and don't have an existing account, you will need to create a new TurboTax Advantage account.
