2015 Alabama: Prior Year Refunds/Payments

There was an issue in TurboTax that could affect your 2015 Alabama state tax return.

Our guidance was unclear and we have updated the language in TurboTax to strengthen the guidance, and we want to make sure your return is complete and accurate. Because of this, certain taxpayers may have filed an incorrect Alabama tax return. We apologize for this error and the inconvenience.

The state of Alabama allows taxpayers to deduct their current federal taxes paid on their Alabama return.

If an Alabama taxpayer amends a prior year federal return that changes the amount of original federal taxes, then any refund received will be considered additional income  and any additional payments will reduce their income on their current year Alabama return.

It's the same with an adjustment letter received from the IRS that changes the original federal taxes. On the current Alabama return, any additional refund received  will be considered additional income and any additional payments paid will reduce the income.

If you have any questions or need any assistance in amending your Alabama return, please use the phone number in the email from TurboTax and tell the representative you’re calling about 2015 Alabama: Prior Year Refunds/Payments
