I remotely work in TN for a company in IN. I didn't live/travel at all to IN. W-2 bx15 has IN, I paid income tax to IN. Do I have to file a nonresidence state tax to IN?

I live and work remotely in Tennessee to a company located in Indiana, and my pay check comes from there. I didn't go or live in IN in 2015 but I still pay tax in Indiana  ( box 15 has IN and Box 17 has IN state income tax:  the reason is my company may request me to move there at any time so they consider me like off station employees). Do I file nonresident state tax in this situation ?? I will owe them money since TN has no income tax.

As a remote worker, your income is earned where the work is performed so this would be TN source income.

Since you are a resident of TN and TN has no state income tax related to wages, you should file for a full refund of your IN state income taxes.

You need to file a nonresident IN state income tax return but report zero "0" IN source income (even though your company is saying the you have IN source wages).

You may need mail in this nonresident IN state income tax return and include his state W-2 information. You will want to include an explanatory statement with your IN return stating your situation (that your IN employer withheld IN taxes from your wages in error because you are a remote employee of the company and your a permanent resident of TN)
