Capture TurboTax Engine Logs

TurboTax engine log files can help us figure out why errors occur when running TurboTax. We'll show you how to capture the TurboTax engine log files so you can send them to us. This will enable us to help you more quickly.

Follow the instructions for either a CD installation or for a Download.
NOTE:  Attach the collected logs to the support article specific to your technical issue.
 

Windows 7, 8 or Vista

  1. Be sure you can view hidden files and folders.
  2. Launch TurboTax and recreate the error.
  3. Locate the log files in the C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax\TYxx\ErrorLog folder. (Substitute your user name for [user name] and xx for the tax year in the path given.) Find Files and Folders.
  4. Click on the Organize button then click Select All to select all the log files.
  5. Right-click on the log files and click Send To>Compressed (zipped) Folder to create a zip file containing all the log files.
  6. Copy the zip file containing the log files to your desktop.

 

Windows XP

  1. Be sure you can view hidden files and folders.
  2. Launch TurboTax and recreate the error.
  3. Locate the log files in the C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Intuit\TurboTax\TYxx\ErrorLog folder. (Substitute your user name for [user name] and xx for the tax year in the path given.) Find Files and Folders.
  4. Click on the Edit menu then click Select All to select all the log files.
  5. Right-click on the log files and click Send To>Compressed (zipped) Folder to create a zip file containing all the log files.
  6. Copy the zip file containing the log files to your desktop.
