Gathering TurboTax Installation Logs

TurboTax installation log files can help us figure out why errors occur when installing TurboTax.

We'll show you how to capture the TurboTax installation log files so you can send them to us. This will enable us to help you more quickly.

Follow the instructions for your operating system and then attach the log files to the appropriate support article's sign up form, as instructed by your support representative.

Windows 7, 8, or Vista

  1. Be sure you can view hidden files and folders.
  2. Install TurboTax and recreate the error.
  3. Locate the log files in the C:\ProgramData\Intuit\TurboTax\MSI\TYXX\Logs folder. (Substitute XX for the tax year in the path given.) Find Files and Folders.
  4. Click on the Organize button then click Select All to select all the log files.
  5. Right-click on the log files and click Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder to create a zip file containing all the log files.
  6. Copy the zip file containing the log files to your desktop.

Windows XP

  1. Be sure you can view hidden files and folders.
  2. Install TurboTax and recreate the error.
  3. Locate the log files in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\TurboTax\MSI/TYXX\Logs folder. (Substitute XX for the tax year in the path given.) Find Files and Folders.
  4. Click on the Edit menu then click Select All to select all the log files.
  5. Right-click on the log files and click Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder to create a zip file containing all the log files.
  6. Copy the zip file containing the log files to your desktop.
