How do I transfer last year's H&R Block or TaxACT PDF into 2016 TurboTax for Mac?

2016 TurboTax for Mac can transfer from a 2015 filing copy of the H&R Block or TaxACT PDF file. It cannot transfer from a "not for filing" PDF file, nor from any other software provider's PDF including TurboTax.

Open your H&R Block or TaxACT PDF before you attempt to transfer. If it says Not For Filing and/or has jumbled information, TurboTax won't be able to read it.

If this is the case, save a filing copy of your 2015 return in PDF format (refer to your H&R Block or TaxACT program instructions, which we're unable to provide here). Then proceed to the transfer instructions, below.

  1. Open TurboTax for Mac.
  2. Click Begin on the Welcome to TurboTax page (or select New Tax Return from the File menu).
  3. On the next screen, Let's Get a Jumpstart on Your 2015 Taxes, select the first option Use a tax return that's on my computer and then click Find a tax return lower down on the page.
  4. Browse to the location of your H&R Block/TaxACT PDF and click Transfer.
  5. In the pop-up, click Transfer to confirm.
