Why do I have a child with no care expenses listed in the child care credit?
We do that to boost your credit!
You’re allowed to claim child care expenses up to $3,000 for one qualifying child. If you have more than one qualifying child, you can claim up to $6,000—even if you only have expenses for one child.
After you enter your child care expenses, if the amount is more than $3,000, we check to see if you have another qualifying child. If you do, we list both children to increase your limit to $6,000 so you get a larger credit.
