Can I deduct my homeowner's insurance?

SOLVEDby TurboTax2778Updated November 22, 2023

You aren't allowed to deduct the cost of homeowner's insurance for things like fire, casualty, or theft on your personal residence.

However, you may be able to deduct a pro-rated portion of your home insurance as part of the home office deduction if you're self-employed.

Homeowner's insurance on your rental property can also be deducted as a rental expense.
