Can I deduct my homeowner's insurance?

You're not allowed to deduct the cost of homeowner's insurance for fire, casualty, theft (etc.) on your personal residence.

However, you may be able to deduct a pro-rated portion of your home insurance as part of the home office deduction.

Homeowner's insurance on your rental property can be deducted as a rental expense.
