2015 TurboTax for Mac

A recent TurboTax update has been released that will stop this issue from occurring on any new tax returns.  Follow the link below for the steps to update the program.  Unfortunately, any tax file that is already receiving the error isn’t repairable.  You will need to start a new tax return.  We apologize for this inconvenience.

This error has affected customers at various different stages of working on their return.  If you have partially filed, for instance you've E-filed your Federal Return, you will need to print and mail the state return because the program won't allow a state return to be E-filed by itself.  The same is true for a scenario where another state needs to be E-filed after already E-filing the Federal and one state return.

If the original computer is not available, please follow the instructions below to install any missing states from the new computer before attempting to open the encrypted file:

  1. Quit and reopen TurboTax.
    • If the tax file opens automatically, cancel the password entry screen.
  2. From the TurboTax menu, choose Download State.
  3. Follow the instructions to download any state(s) in the tax file.
  4. When finished, quit and then reopen TurboTax.
  5. Re-open the original file that was giving you the error.

If the above steps don't resolve the issue you're experiencing, you will need to create a new tax file.
