How do I fix my rejected extension?

We make it easy for you to fix your extension.

The email you received will include the specific reason why your extension was rejected:

  1. Click or tap the orange Fix my Extension link in your email.
  2. Sign in to TurboTax Online.
  3. Once you've signed in, click or tap Fix my extension.

Note: If you're paying additional federal taxes with your extension, but your extension keeps rejecting, here are 2 options to avoid the late payment penalty:

  1. Recommended: Pay your taxes at IRS.gov/payments (this also automatically gives you an extension).
  2. Download and print Form 4868, fill it out, and get it postmarked before midnight April 18. Payment and mailing instructions are on pages 3 and 4 of your printout.

Did you know? You might not need an extension if you're getting a refund. More info
