Error 1612: "The installation source for this product is not available"

Error 1612 occurs when updating TurboTax:

Error 1612: The installation source for this product is not available.

Possible Cause

One or more program files have been modified or corrupted, and the original installation package or media is not accessible.


To resolve this issue:

  1. Close TurboTax.
  2. Go to this Microsoft support page and scroll down to the "Diagnose and fix the problem automatically" section. Follow the directions to run the Fix it wizard. 
  3. Reopen TurboTax and try updating again.
  4. If error 1612 persists, close TurboTax and then click here to download and save the Fix1612.exe file to your desktop.
  5. Look for the Fix1612.exe file (pictured below) and double-click it to run it.

  6. Reopen TurboTax and try your update again. Should error 1612 continue to occur, you'll need to reinstall TurboTax.
