Filing Instructions Displays a different Refund Amount than Form 1040

You may see a refund amount displayed within TurboTax that differs from what is displayed on the filing instructions page when printing your return.  The amount that is displayed on the filing instructions may not reflect the refund that is calculated on Form 1040.

Cause

The refund or tax due that is displayed on the filing instructions is the amount of refund or tax due on your tax return that was filed with the IRS or state.  When the refund amount shown on the filing instructions differs from what is displayed in the refund monitor in TurboTax it is caused by the following scenario:

  • Changes to your return have been made after filing electronically
    Or
  • An update resolves a calculation issue that causes your return to change
    And
  • Your electronically filed tax return is in Pending or Accepted status
