"TurboTax needs to check for Updates" loop when attempting to E-File (Mac)

Some customers have experienced an update loop when attempting to electronically file. When going through the file experience, you are presented with a message that TurboTax needs to check for updates, TurboTax checks for update and none were found. When continuing through the file process, TurboTax again prompts you to check for updates.


We have added a feature that will allow you to reinstall the latest formset updates using the "Check for Updates" option in the menu. This does not indicate your program was not already up to date, but rather re-installs the latest updates.

  1. Launch TurboTax from the Applications folder.
  2. Select the TurboTax menu and select the Check for Updates option.
  3. Allow the latest form updates to be reinstalled by selecting Next when prompted.
  4. Once the updates are finished, select Continue and then Quit TurboTax and re-launch it from the Applications folder.
  5. Try e-filing again.
