When attempting to e-file your return, you receive a message similar to:
ZIP code is invalid for Electronic Filing. You must enter a valid ZIP code for your state. Enter a correct ZIP code in this format 'nnnnn' or 'nnnnn-nnnn'
TurboTax follows the IRS guidelines for acceptable ZIP codes. If the 2-letter state abbreviation does not match the ZIP code, you will receive this error when attempting to e-file.
Should you receive this error:
- Double-check that you entered the correct 2-letter state code.
- Make sure you've entered the ZIP code in either 5-digit or 9-digit format, for example 12345 or 12345-6789.
- Look up the correct ZIP code for the street address in question.
