Excess charitable contributions

There's a limit on how much you can deduct. The basic rule is that your contributions to public charities, colleges and religious groups can't exceed 50% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). Sometimes a lower limit of 30% or even 20% is applied based on the type of organization or donation. When you go over the limit, you’re allowed to carry the excess forward for up to five years.

We automatically carry over excess contributions to next year's return for you.
