E-file rejection F2441-524-01: The last name and Social Security number of your qualifying person(s) for your dependent care expenses don't match IRS records

A return that was rejected with The last name and Social Security number of your qualifying person(s) for your dependent care expenses don't match IRS records (Error code F2441-524-01) occurs when the name or Social Security number for the qualifying person is either incorrect or doesn't match what's on file with the IRS.

Solution

Get your dependent's Social Security card and then follow these steps to make sure their information was entered correctly:

  1. Open your return in TurboTax and click Personal Info.
  2. On the summary screen, click Edit next to your dependent's name.
  3. Make sure that the dependent's name and Social Security number exactly match the information on their Social Security card.
  4. If it's wrong, correct it, click Continue, and proceed to the File section to resubmit your return.

Otherwise, if you verified that the info for each of your dependents is correct, your next step is to call the Social Security Administration (SSA) at 1-800-772-1213 to verify that the SSA's records are correct. (The IRS gets their information from the SSA.) Correct SSA records will prevent the same rejection next year.

In the meantime, your best option is to file a paper return, as your return will continue to get rejected until the mismatch is fixed at the SSA, which can take 4–6 weeks or even longer.
