What is a W-4P?

Form W-4P (Withholding Certificate for Pension or Annuity Payments) is a form you give to your retirement plan provider. It tells them how much federal income tax to withhold from your payouts.

Think of it as the retirement plan equivalent of the W-4 form you used to have to submit to your employer.

TurboTax doesn't handle this form, nor do you need to enter any W-4P info on your taxes. If you need to submit a W-4P to your provider, download it from the IRS website, print it out, and fill it in. Instructions are included with the printout.
