Can I transfer from a PDF into TurboTax Online?

Yes. You can easily transfer your 2015 return as a PDF to get a head start on your 2016 return. There is no fee to do this.

You can transfer PDFs from other online tax prep sites (Credit Karma, TaxAct, etc.), tax services (H&R Block, etc.) and even an accountant or CPA.

As you start your 2016 return, you’ll have a chance to transfer your 2015 PDF, eliminating the need to type in a lot of the details yourself. We’ll ask if anything has changed from last year (Marital status? Have you moved? Had a new child? etc.). Then as you work through each section of your 2016 return, you’ll have the opportunity to add, remove or update any items based on your 2016 taxes.

For PDF Transfers Keep in Mind:
  • The PDF needs to be your 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ.
  • The program accepts PDFs from a range of providers but not all of them.

In certain situations, the program might not accept a PDF, such as when it’s password-protected, a scan of a hard copy rather than an electronic PDF, and certain other cases. If this happens, don’t worry, we’ll guide you through typing in your info.
