can i retrive my 2012 return from turbo tax?

  • Oh, if you used the Desktop Program then Turbo Tax doesn't have a copy of it.  The only copy would be on your computer.
  • I have had turbo tax for years and I lost all my returns.

    You don't give any info on "how" you "lost" them, so it's unclear what has happened.  If you use Mac, do you have Time Machine that might be able to restore them?

    You also don't say if you used Online or Desktop version.    If you use the Desktop product, then you were the only one that had a copy of the TT tax files.  Be sure you search your entire compute (and any backup systems) for any tax data files.   In recent years, the tax data files have ended in *.taxYYYY (with YYYY being the year).   If you saved any returns as .PDF's, then search for the PDF files, too.

    You can order free transcripts of your returns from the IRS at the following website, and it takes 5-10 days to come in the mail. A transcript is a condensed version, consisting mainly of line numbers and amounts.  You can order the transcript at the following IRS website or over the special phone number at:

    You have to log in with the exact same user name and password. If you can't log in or find your return maybe you forgot your password or have multiple accounts

    To print a copy for your records and save as a PDF.  Also make sure you save the pdf file with ALL the forms and worksheets.
