The IRS is stating within 21 days once your return has been accepted (the IRS will not start accepting returns until January 30th), the IRS is not issuing a Refund Cycle Chart for the tax season.  What to Expect for Refunds in 2013

http://www.irs.gov/Refunds/What-to-Expect-for-Refunds-in-2013

The IRS has changed the date they will startaccepting returns to January 30th (was Jan 22nd), Following the January tax law changes made by Congress under the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA), the Internal Revenue Service announced today it plans to open the 2013 filing season and begin processing individual income tax returns on Jan. 30.

The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on that date after updating forms and completing programming and testing of its processing systems. This will reflect the bulk of the late tax law changes enacted Jan. 2. The announcement means that the vast majority of tax filers — more than 120 million households — should be able to start filing tax returns starting Jan 30.

The IRS estimates that remaining households will be able to start filing in late February or into March because of the need for more extensive form and processing systems changes. This group includes people claiming residential energy credits, depreciation of property or general business credits. Most of those in this group file more complex tax returns and typically file closer to the April 15 deadline or obtain an extension.

  • So, the time of receipt has changed as well?  Wasn't it within 7 days before for e-filing?
Once the IRS has accepted your return (after Jan 22), plan on 21 days or so:

thats just wrong not accepting untl jan 22   what is wrong with them?
    • They have to test which is what they have been doing since Jan 23rd.  They pick returns I think at random from different vendors and submit them for testing.  The lucky few (I am hearing a few hundred) get processed and done.  It varies from year to year.  The metafile system doing the testing went down for maintenance last nite and is still down today.  Means they found problems, bugs, or something.  Always what happens when you bring new systems on line.  Lucky us.  I am hearing weird rumors that people will get refunds early too but I don't believe them.  I think some people are trying to get people all excited instead of accurately reporting what is actually happening.  Hang in there.
Actually the IRS won't accept them until 1/30 due to fiscal cliff issue.
IRS has said it will open eFile Jan 30th for some 1040 users.  There is a list of forms which I have included a link for and some people will have to wait until March or even April and beyond.  What a mess.  Check your forms and see if any of your forms are delaying your refund and then do something about it or you will have to wait until March or April ore beyond.  Here is the link:

Here is the link for forms that will delay your refund and return until march, April ore beyond:

    • NONE OF THESE ANSWERS HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ORIGINAL QUESTION ----((( WHEN WILL I GET MY NETSPEND DEBIT CARD???))))  WISH I KNEW ...MY REFUND WAS DEPOSITED BUT I NEVER RECIEVED MY CARD EITHER. MAY BE MY LAST YEAR FOR TURBO TAX. GOOD LUCK USERS!!!!
    • The answers ARE for the original question which was "If I e-file how long does it take to receive a refund?", the original Poster DID NOT ask about a netspend card, others have tagged on to the post asking questions that are different from the original question.  You should start your own question.
