what is section 179 carryover?

I don't know what this is and why it is showing up on my tax return review.

Section 179 carryover would be the amount of Section 179 expense that your asset qualified for but you were not able to deduct in a prior year (perhaps due to income limitations). If you have the Section 179 carryover on a Schedule K-1, it would be the amount the business entity could not deduct.
  • I keep getting this: and i can't clear it!

    The total Section 179 carryover shown here does not match the sum of the Section 179 carryovers shown on each individual activity. Please review your return and correct the carryovers on the individual activities so that they add up to the total shown here. See Tax Help for more information..

    If it knows the sum why cant it just put it there? I can't tell what items it's refferring to, and it looks like an error from 2010, why is it caring now?

  • Same problem for three years, shouldn't TurboTax have fixed it by now?

    or say more than "This carryover amount is reported on line 13 of your 2013 Form 4562."
    then we see that there's no line 13 on form 4562, just columns. Tell us which column it would be in!

    Shouldn't it get auto-populated, especially if using Turbo-Tax from year to year?

    There's no Schedule K-1 in my last year, so does that mean there's no carryover?

    I have 0 in this line (col 2013). I choose, last year, full deduction with Section 179 for one computer and one printer.
    So this year I choose: nothing to carryover in Section 179.
    0 seems correct but TurboxTax says it's wrong...

    Can someone explain it?
