The firm who prepared the Partner's K-1 should have included a description of what the deductions are and instructions on how to report the deductions on the partner's individual return. See the Partners instructions for Schedule K-1 for a comprehensive list of deductions that may be reported in box 13 with code W. If the firm who prepared the partner's K-1 did not provide a description or instructions on how to report box 13 code W: Go to Screen 20, Passthrough K-1's. Select Partnership from the left navigation panel. Scroll down to the Separately Stated Income and Deductions section. To report the deduction as passive: Locate the First Passive Item subsection. Hold down Ctrl+E in Other (Ctrl+E). Enter the Description. Enter the Amount as a negative number. Click OK. If the loss is allowed after passive limitations are applied the entry will flow to the Schedule E, page 2, Line 28 column (f), "Passive loss allowed (attach Form 8582 if required)". To report the deduction as nonpassive: Hold down Ctrl+E in Other nonpassive items (Ctrl+E). Enter the Description. Enter the Amount as a negative number. Click OK. This entry will flow to the Schedule E, page 2, Line 28 column (h) "Nonpassive loss from Schedule K-1". If the partnership provided details on the box 13, code W amount, review the Where do I enter... link found in the Line 13 - Other Deductions section heading of screen 20.1. This will open the Lacerte Help Center where you can click Line 13W - Oth r Deductions for more input details. The detailed input for this line has instructions regarding where this input may belong. For box 13W amounts that are not specifically listed here, use the Partners instructions for Schedule K-1 to determine where the item should be reported on the partner's 1040.

Windows 7 is increasingly becoming a security risk. There are no further updates, which means that any new security breaches that have been discovered remain open, giving criminals access to their computers and doing whatever they want. Most computers that can handle Windows 7 run version 10 without any problems. This also applies to control software called drivers for external devices such as printers. )ver the years there have been many improvements in operating systems, not only in the interface that normal users see, but also in the engine room. This is especially true for the security framework. Its users may not be interested in how the operating system handles internal processes, but it is often associated with protection against threats. They are constantly changing. Once a hole is closed, the search for a new one begins. Because systems are gigantic structures with millions of lines, they inevitably have errors. So it will never take long for the next hole to be discovered and exploited – information about it will spread very quickly in related circles. Then anyone can be infected: by stealing sensitive data or by turning a computer into a remote control zombie that sends spam emails.

Any charity that is a 501(C)(3) is deductible. If you have given to the church in previous years and deducted it, this year will be no different.

It appears that many taxpayers are not familiar with the special $300 tax deduction for charitable contributions even if you do NOT itemize your deductions. This is a special tax law change made earlier this year that allows cash donations up to $300 made before December 31, 2020 to be deductible when you file your 2020 taxes next year.

Help - I filed my return using TT Premier and line 20 had an amount that I overpaid, and line 21 had a smaller amount (by $5,000) that I wanted refunded to me. Line 22 had the difference (that $5,000) that I wanted applied to my 2020 taxes. However, the whole overpaid amount on line 20 was deposited into my account. They did not take out the $5,000 that I put on line 22. I worry that the TurboTax program was not transmitted correctly to the IRS. What should I do?

TurboTax for tax year 2019 and QuickBooks 2020 will install on Windows 7 (Service Pack 1 or later) PCs. However, they strongly recommend upgrading your operating system before installing these products. . As of January 14, 2020, Microsoft no longer provides security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7. This means that computers running on Windows 7 will be more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. To avoid these risks, Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 10.
