@Erical
I see you recently cheered the original solution in this thread about preparing a 2017 return. This is a thread that is a couple of years old that transferred into this new Community forum last June.
While it's not too late to file a 2017 return prepared with TurboTax, you cannot prepare the 2017 return in Online TurboTax, (web version) which is only for 2019 returns at this point in time. You would have to use 2017 desktop software as explained in detail elsewhere in this thread.
You may have already known that, but I wanted to make sure you do NOT try to prepare 2017 return using the 2019 Online TurboTax interface (i.e., the web version). We have sometimes seen a user try to prepare the wrong tax year online by mistake.

@ terrygordonweller wrote: Been in the process of moving so have had my hands full. Still need to get this cleared up. All I know is that it was rejected but do not know why and can't get in to fix it. I'll tell you how to open the return back up at the end of this posting, but you need to know what to fix. If you didn't get the email about the rejection reason, also check your spam/junk folders or other email accounts. Otherwise, TurboTax Support can tell you the reason. When you log into your Online account, if the "Fix My Return" link is not working, we can tell you how to get help from TurboTax Support, and they can tell you the reason that the efiled return rejected. You previously said something about paying an extra $60 for a tax expert. I then left you a comment above, which told you how to reach a live tax expert if you indeed purchased the Live product. I'll also link to a FAQ below with the same info. If you did not purchase that Live option or have any trouble with it, then I'd use the second FAQ below, which is for general TurboTax Support. Hours for both types of Support are 5AM-5PM Pacific (8AM-8PM Eastern) Monday-Friday FAQ: How do I connect with a tax expert in TurboTax Live? https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/expert-review/help/how-do-i-connect-with-a-tax-expert-in-turbotax-... Otherwise, you can phone general TurboTax Support for help. They can tell you why the efiled return rejected. FAQ: What is the TurboTax phone number? https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number/00/25632 Here's how to open the return back up, but it sounds like you don't know what to fix. So you'll need to find that out from TurboTax Support first. Log in and if the "Fix My Return" link isn't working, then choose tax year 2018 and the link "Add a State." (That doesn't really add one, but just opens your return back up.) Then you can make any corrections and resubmit the efile.

@curly_freak_swor asked: "When inputting payment information, do you have to do it twice? Once for your federal and once for your State?" What type of "payment information?" i.e., payment for "what?" Are you referring to payment of product fees? If so, all of your product fees are paid at the same time. If you are referring to payment of Federal and state taxes owed, you have to choose a payment method for each one separately. Your state may or may not allow the same payment methods as your Federal return.

First @grandpaedwards , I am deeply sorry for your loss. The second question after you enter your wifes information is a checkbox for either legally blind, or passed away before filing this return. Then it asks the date of your loss. Filling out this section correctly should alleviate the problem. I wish you all the best, Jim

Yes. Federal taxes are not based on where in the US you live or work. You may however need to file in DC and MD if the local rules dictate. It's usually only based on the state you derived your income in.

I am very sorry for your loss. This is from TT help. Below is a post from TurboTaxMIchelleT for your answer. If you are unable to e-file without the driver's license, you will have to file the return by mail. For most states, your return can be e-filed and will process without your driver's license number. Hope it helps: Try not putting his License info in. It might be helpful to know that In most states, entering the drivers license or ID is recommended but not required. Delete the license info, then continue, red high lights will come up, then just hit continue again. It is possible you will make it to the next screen. If your State issued ID (including Military ID) or driver's license is not being accepted, you can leave the driver's license/state ID information blank, and still file your return. Two states, Illinois and Alabama, do require a driver's license to file a state return.
