Please see the steps below to enter both documents. The software will make the required calculations based on the information you enter. Please ensure all information is entered and all boxed are checked in the software the same as they appear on your W-2's and SSA-1099. Your SSA-1099-SM the SM stands for Self Mailer and is entered in the same place as a SSA-1099 form. - Click on the Federal Taxes (Personal, in Home & Business product) - Click on Wages & Income (Personal Income, in Home & Business product) - Click on [I'll Explore on my own] OR (I’ll choose what I work on) if it’s showing - Scroll down that screen (page) to (Retirement Plans and Social Security) - Under the above is Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099) Click on Start or Update - There's a little round button (Yes, let’s work on social security benefits) Check that button then Click (Continue) - Next Screen (Tell Us About the Benefits You Received) Check (Social Security benefits SSA-1099) - You will see where you can enter 1. Box 5 - Total Net Benefits: Total Net Benefits, are (Box 3 minus Box 4) on your SSA-1099 2. Box 6 - Federal Tax Withheld To enter you W-2 information.

If the additional amount that was withheld is not located in box 6 of your SSA-1099, you would report the additional taxes paid by following the steps below.
Select Federal Taxes
Click Deductions & Credits.
Click "I'll choose what I work on"
Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
Click "Estimates"
Scroll down to "Other Income Taxes Paid in 2015"
Click Start next to "Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099"

Yes, you can complete an application for an exemption after your taxes were filed. If you receive an exemption and you there was a penalty included in your return, you can file an amended return to include your exemption number. To file for an exemption, please visit the link below.

The purchase of the land for personal use is not reported on your return. You have do not report the land until it is sold. Interest on the purchase of vacant land for personal use is not deductible. However, if you build a home on the land, the mortgage interest is deductible at that time. If the land was purchased as an investment, the interest paid is deductible using Form 4952. Investment interest is deductible to the extent of your investment income. To enter the investment interest expense:
Go to the federal income tab (Personal in Home & Business)
Click on the deductions and credits section
Scroll down to the retirement and investment section
Start the other investment income expenses section
You can deduct on the purchase of the land are real estate taxes that you paid. To enter real estate taxes you paid for your main home, a vacation home, or land:
Select Federal Taxes (Personal in the Home & Business edition).
In Online TurboTax, click the bars at the upper left corner to show Federal Taxes on the selection list; enlarge the screen if needed to show the left side selection list.

There is not a minimum amount for depreciating the expense. For items such as the purchase of the lens, you would consider it a capital expense and use a 179 deduction to depreciate the asset during the first year. Please be advised: If you chose not to take the full Section 179
