@pugpapa75 I don’t consider the problem solved. It will be solved when TR acknowledges there is a problem and fixes it. An earlier post said if a person goes in and manually enters information into the sheets. Any guarantees or audit defense will be voided.

If this doesn’t get corrected I’m done using TT. I don’t understand how they can’t pinpoint any issue when do many users are reporting a problem.

There is a bug in the software. TT has been working on a fix for over a month. There have been 2 work-arounds suggested by other users. The first is to go into the actual form/worksheet and check the “No” box. (there was a post stating this solution would invalidate any audit guarantee from TT) The second is to answer the tax limitation question “No”, do not click continue, save the return, back out of the program, reopen the program and manually continue your return at the next step. I have actually tried both solutions and both cleared all the error checks and were deemed ready to efile. After reviewing the paper form I successfully efiled using the second work around. My return has been accepted and approved by the IRS and state.

Thanks for the letting me know TT called you back. I don’t want to trigger an audit by entering my 1098s differently than the document the IRS receives.

@KrisD Thanks for the clarification. The answer to the op confused me. I couldn’t understand how a transferred refinanced loan could be classified as an original.

This is definitely as issue. I have the desktop program and have sent my tax file to TT as requested. I have not received any kind of response from TT. In my case, the error causes a taxes due amount of over $2500 vs a refund of over $500. Its unacceptable. It is doubly irritating to have TT repeated say “there is no bug”. I guess People can’t rely on TT to “Get your maximum refund, guaranteed”.

If the refinanced loan was transferred it wouldn’t be the original loan, would it? If the refinanced loan isn’t considered the original loan, how can it be the original when it is transferred. As stated earlier, TT doesn’t give an option of a transferred loan.

This is definitely an issue (see thread 2019 Limit Deductible Mortgage Interest Question Not Working). I have the desktop TT program. I have 3 1098s. One is the original loan, one is a refinance and the 3rd is a transfer. I sent my tax file to TT as requested regarding this issue. They have not responded. There have been 2 work arounds suggested by TT users. The first is to go into the actual form and check the “No” box.
