Zero $0 Dollar Returns
The IRS has issued guidance for electronically filing $0 dollar returns. In addition to all other information required to be entered on Form 1040, a zero AGI filer must enter the following:
$1 as taxable interest on line 2b;
$1 as total income on line 9; and
$1 as AGI on line 11 IRS - Not required to file a tax return
Well that's good to know, but all I know is this not only happened to me, but my brother [PII Removed] too when he did his on TurboTax website. We did not file our taxes last year because neither of us had an income, but we both recieved a stimulus check so checked that box. We didn't want to select didn't file last year because of receiving the stimulus payment. You have to select one or the other. After you do this a $1is automatically put in as your AGI and you cannot edit it on their website it won't allow you. It says your AGi will be put as a $1. The only way we could be accepted was so to wait till it was rejected then once it was it allowed us the opportunity to go back in and put a 0. Our AGI cannot be a $1 if we had no income.
