Your software says "I know your daughter is 9, but..." when in fact she is 10! Her birthday is in February, but your software doesn't realize it is March.

The tax return uses the age she was on December 31, 2016.  Was she 9 them?

Fair enough. But the folksy way that TurboTax says that it knows how old my daughter is, yet states the wrong age, makes it seem as if there's a bug in the age calculation. This is a bit disconcerting for tax software. However, as you point out, they must just be using the end of the calendar year age. Thanks for responding :).

Everything in the program is referencing 2016, the tax year being prepared.  Its just the way it works.

Yes, I get it. The software probably should not use the present tense when telling me how old my daughter was 2 and 1/2 months ago. It'll be wrong about 20% of the time. Anyway--this is silly, and I must go to bed. Have a nice night.
