Also, your status is prominently displayed when you sign in to TurboTax Online or open your return in the CD/download version on your computer.

I didn't see "status" after clicking onto "tools".
TurboTax Online
When you sign back in n to your TurboTax account, you should see the e-file status displayed right on the first screen. [Screenshot below.] Keep in mind that the IRS won't even start processing returns until February 12, so you won't see a change in the status until after that date.
TurboTax CD/Download
From within your return click File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status
