Husband passed away last year in February, I filed head of house hold and got rejected and refilled married joint will this fix the problem?

You are eligible to file Married Filing Joint since your spouse passed away in February, 2017.

Head of Household is generally for single filers with dependents.  However, if you do have dependents, you are eligible to file as Qualifying Widower for two years following your spouses death.

Married filing joint and Qualifying Widower is a more favorable tax filing status.

TurboTax will walk to through the best way to file by answering the questions.

The following IRS publication describes the two filing statuses:  (see page 5)
