Got divorced in 2016. I can not file a joint return, correct? If so, why is turbotax asking me if I want to file a joint return when I already told it I'm divorced?

You are correct that you cannot file a joint return if you were not married on 12/31/2016. Some people could be divorced and then remarried which might be a reason for asking the question.
