Even though Turbo Tax will let you efile in early January the return will just sit at Turbo Tax until the IRS opens in late January. And you might get more tax forms in the mail you forgot about or weren't expecting. The employers and banks, etc don't have to mail the W2 and 1099 forms until Jan 31.
You can't jump the gun and actually "FILE" before the IRS is ready and opens up their systems for accepting and processing Tax Returns. This is despite the marketing text ("hyper") hat you can file before the IRS date.
In 2023, they began accepting 2022 returns on January 23. While the exact date for 2024 has not been officially announced, internal statements have indicated that processing will start on or about Thursday, January 18, 2024. Submitting your tax return to Turbotax earlier than that date ("hype") may mean that you will be "first in line" but it does not start the date when processing begins.
Think I saw a post that said Jan 24.
