is it ok to file single vs married filing separate if I was separated on 11/20/16 legally

Ca I file single if I have legal document showing separated as of Nov 20th 2016.

Yes, you can since the separation was legalized in 2016. Your filing status is determined as of Dec 31st each year.  You can file as Single or Head of Household if you otherwise qualify.

Yes, you can since the separation was legalized in 2016. Your filing status is determined as of Dec 31st each year.  You can file as Single or Head of Household if you otherwise qualify.
