I just applied today for a social security number for a dependent, now my return is rejected for it. Is it possible that the info hasn't crossed over to the IRS?

Yes, if you just applied for a social security number today for your dependent, this info has definitely not crossed over to the IRS yet, which is why your return is rejecting.

It takes the Social Security Administration approximately 10 business days to update this information to the IRS.
