When you complete the interview questions at the beginning of your return you will be asked if your spouse died BEFORE completing THIS (2017) return.

Upon providing the correct answer (yes) to that question, as well as the other questions in the interview section, TTax will properly make the correct entries for your return --including a notation in the TOP MARGIN of the first page that your spouse died before filing.
