Will IRS keep our tax refund if medical bills are owed by an elderly dependant (parent) we are adding as a dependant on our taxes and who just became a permanent resident of Texas?
We have already paid part of her medical expenses, but there is still large outstanding balance on another account and we could not get insurance because she was not a permanent resident at the time and only had a visitor visa.

Your tax refund cannot be seized or intercepted for the debts of a dependent being claimed on your tax return.
