Will I have to file for a recovery rebate credit on my 2021 taxes if I’m not getting the second stimulus check payment? I’m getting the 1200 credit for my 2020 taxes.

I was claimed as dependent in 2019 but am now independent so I wasn’t eligible for the first or second round of payments. I can get the first 1200 payment back, but am wondering about the 600 second payment.

If you do not receive the second stimulus payment on or before January 15, 2021 and/or you did not receive the first stimulus payment in 2020 and you are eligible it will be entered on your federal tax return, Form 1040 on Line 30.

The Form 1040 has not been finalized and needs to updated to include the 2nd Economic Impact Payment.

yes, all on the 2020 tax return; TT will automatically calculate for you - it is not a separate form or filing...... TT is not yet programmed for #2, but I suspect it will be by the end of the month.. look at line 30 on form 1040 for the tax credit (called "EIP")

MOST anyone who was a dependent in 2018/2019 and is not dependent now (think college graduates or high school graduates that are now working and not in school who made at least $4300 in 2020)  as well as most all children born in 2020, who obviously not listed on 2018/2019 tax return fall into this bucket
