Will I get a tax credit for both my children if I file them? My ex husband said his CPA said it wouldn't be beneficial to file both girls and he should file one.

He said that something changed and now you only get credit for one child and I just don't believe that. I want to file both but he is fighting me on it.

I'm sure your ex-husband did say that because it's clearly to his advantage to say so, even if it's not correct (which it's not.)  Either the CPA or your husband are not giving you correct information.

Nothing has really "changed".  You can still claim multiple children and receive deductions/credits for each.
Who is the custodial parent? Who do the children live with more during the year?

I am and they live with me. I am sure he is just trying to pull one over on me. I will file them like I have every other year.

If you are talking about the child tax credit then if one child is 17 or older then something has changed - the child must be under age 17 for the credit.

Additionally, If a child has turned 18, and is an adult according to the laws of your state, then only the parent that the child lived with can claim.

Yes, I was talking about the child tax credit. He said that it only applies to 1 child now.
Their ages are 5 and 13.

The $1,000 per child child tax credit applies to all qualified child dependents.  There is no limit to the number of children. It is not a refundable credit and can only reduce your tax liability to zero so the only limit is your tax liability.
