Wife moved to another state

My wife and I lived in Illinois until June, when she moved to Massachusetts where she established residency and earned less than $2,000 in 2023 from a job there.  She earned no other income in 2023.  I plan on filing MFJ for the federal return.  Do I file a MFJ or MFS return for Illinois (and if MFJ for Illinois can I exclude her Massachusetts income), and does she file a MFS return for Massachusetts?

A  part year resident files as a nonresident and is not required to file on income below $8,000. See Personal Income Tax for Nonresidents  - an overview

If she were filing, she would file MA as MFS since the residency is not the same for the two of you. You can file MFJ on IL.
